La Jolla fireworks to return for Fourth of July? 'It's going to happen this year,' organizers say

If the state continues on its path to end the tier system of COVID-19-related restrictions and fully reopen June 15, La Jolla will be ready to celebrate in a big way with the return of its beloved Fourth of July fireworks display over The Cove.
“It’s going to happen this year,” said Deborah Marengo, director of the La Jolla Community Fireworks Foundation. “Our fundraising committee has been meeting for the last few months in anticipation of our permit being approved, and the fire marshal indicated the permit would be approved for this year.”
At the La Jolla Village Merchants Association’s April 14 meeting, Executive Director Jodi Rudick read a letter from the San Diego Special Events & Filming Department indicating that, provided rates of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and vaccinations continue positive trends, the show could take place. ....

La Jolla traffic board approves parking directional sign project and Christmas Parade street closures

A parking directional sign pilot project spearheaded by the La Jolla Coastal Access and Parking Board won unanimous approval of the local Traffic & Transportation Board during its Feb. 17 meeting.
The project aims to guide motorists to parking spots at garages in The Village and help ease traffic congestion in the area.
The directional, or wayfinding, program would make use of money for short-term parking solutions as part of the La Jolla Coastal Access Parking Fund, which was established about 50 years ago through California Coastal Commission-required contributions by office space developers. About $121,000 is available for short-term parking solutions. ....

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) â Move over Hollywood, there s another Southern California locale attracting moviemakers.
According to MovieMaker Magazine, the City of San Diego is among the best places for moviemakers to live and work this year. San Diego was the only California city to make the top 25 list, coming in at 17.
Los Angeles is considered a Hall of Fame location and was not eligible for the magazine s list.
Itâs incredibly rewarding that the City of San Diego continues to be recognized for investing in the film industry, particularly after this challenging past year, said Brandy Shimabukuro, Filming Program Manager for the City of San Diegoâs Special Events & Filming Department. While there is still much work to be done, we know our convenient, binational location offers the environment and lifestyle to attract filmmake ....
