Care for some pi? Don’t mind if I do – March 14 is National Pi Day (not to be confused with the other National Pie Day in January) and it’s all about celebrating our inner geek by combining the love of a good slice of nice with the mathematical constant Pi (“π” or “pi”), originally defined as the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. ....

Pi Day isn't just about a mathematical constant, it's also about pies

Today March 14 is Pi Day. Ostensibly, it is a day to celebrate the mathematical constant Pi, the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter.
Of course, given the irrational number that Pi is, it’s not surprising the day is more frequently used as an excuse to bake and eat pies. Even at the very first Pi Day in 1988, organized by San Francisco Exploratorium physicist Larry Shaw, participants ate fruit pies after doing a circular march. ....

Pi Day 2021: Celebrate 3/14 with deals, discounts on pizza, pies and more

Pi Day 2021: Celebrate 3/14 with deals, discounts on pizza, pies and more

Today is March 14. Or, as the math proficient call it, 3/14.
Today is Pi day in honor of the symbol used in mathematics to represent the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, approximately 3.14159.
According to the day’s organizers, Pi is a constant number, meaning that for all circles of any size, Pi will be the same. It’s been calculated to more than 1 trillion digits beyond its decimal point, though it continues infinitely without repetition or pattern.
The first Pi Day was organized in 1988 at the San Francisco Exploratorium when physicist Larry Shaw had the idea to celebrate the day by marching around a circle and then eating some pies. ....

Pi Day pie guide: What are some St. Cloud favorites?

It s finally here: The first day of the year that s all about pie.
Technically, March 14 is all about celebrating pi, the mathematical constant whose first three digits are 3.14. (Do you see what they did there?) But you better believe the main celebratory action is consuming the tasty dessert that, in my opinion, is too pigeonholed into Thanksgiving to receive its due attention.
Plus, pi is an important part of calculating both the radius and circumference of a circle, so really, pie is a great way to celebrate pi.
No, I didn t make this up. That credit is given to Larry Shaw, who created Pi Day in 1988. He was a former staff physicist of the San Francisco Exploratorium, and on the first Pi Day, at 1:59 p.m. (the subsequent digits of pie after 3.14), he and his wife set up a table of fruit pies in the museum to celebrate. ....
