County resumes administration of Johnson and Johnson vaccine

–The San Luis Obispo County Public Health department will resume administering the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine locally, in accordance with guidance from the California Department of Public Health.
“The health and safety of our community is top priority in this vaccination effort to end the COVID-19 pandemic,” said County Public Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein. “This pause was an example of how vaccine safety is monitored on a national level, and the thorough and transparent manner with which adverse events are investigated. We are happy to have confirmation from multiple entities that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is safe to resume administering locally.” ....

San Luis Obispo County Public Health officials are reporting 16 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the county s total to 21,180 confirmed cases as of April 29.
Health officials say two people are currently hospitalized. Another 167 are recovering at home and officials say 20,751 people have recovered.
Eight of the 38 licensed and staffed ICU beds in the county are currently occupied. None are taken by COVID-19 patients, but one SLO County resident is in an ICU outside of the county.
San Luis Obispo County has had 260 deaths attributed to the virus. ....

DA encourages the public to learn more and consider getting Covid-19 vaccine

–District Attorney Dan Dow shared this week that he has received the COVID-19 vaccination, along with many other county employees from San Luis Obispo County Public Health (Employee Health Clinic), and is encouraging others to consider doing the same in a video, embedded below:
“Getting vaccinated is perhaps one of the best ways to protect yourself, your family, and our community from COVID-19. The vaccine is new to all of us so it’s okay to have questions and I encourage you to get fully informed before making the decision,” said Mr. Dow.
“I personally trust the vaccine to keep myself my family and loved ones safe from COVID-19. I’m looking forward to our county returning to the way that we used to be before the pandemic. One way that you can help us do that is by getting vaccinated. So if you’ve made the decision to get vaccinated or if you need more information, visit the website www.recoverslo.org.” ....
