For the past seven years, Sherry Gulbranson has worked at Sanford Health Broadway Clinic in Alexandria, but her nursing career started more than 25 years ago at Galeon in Osakis.
In fact, her grandmother, mother and aunt all worked at Galeon, too. Her grandmother was one of the first nursing assistants to work at the Osakis nursing home when it first opened and her mom, a resident care attendant, recently retired from the Galeon Assisted Living. ....

Vaccination clinics will be held in each school district.

Area students to receive COVID-19 vaccine if they want it. It will be not be mandatory for them to receive it. (Shutterstock image)
Students around the area will have an opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccine during clinics held at school.
The vaccine is not mandatory, but is being offered to students who are 16 years of age and older. Students who are 16 and 17 can receive the vaccine with parental permission. Those who are 18 years old do not need consent from a parent.
The clinics are being offered through a joint effort with Horizon Public Health, Sanford Health Broadway Clinic and Alexandria Clinic, a service of Alomere Health. ....

Douglas County ahead of state COVID-19 vaccine rate
As of March 13 data provided by the Minnesota Department of Health, 10,155 people – 27.1% of the counties population (37,513) – have received at least one vaccine dose with 6,556 – 17.5% – completing their vaccine series. Supply has been sporadic but should be more consistent as number of eligible people increases.

As of Monday, March 15, the county’s vaccination rate is better than the states. Statewide, 22.7% have received at least one dose and 13% have completed their series, whereas in Douglas County, 27.1% have received at least one dose and 17.5% have completed their vaccine series. according to the Minnesota Department of Health. While some are eager for COVID-19 vaccine, word of side effects has others hesitating
As more people receive the vaccines, more stories are going around about the unpleasant side effects some of those people are experiencing – and that’s causing others to have second thoughts about whether or not to get vaccinated. A total of 6,638 people in Douglas County – 17.7% of the county’s population – have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine as of Feb. 15, according to the state health department.
