Medford harriers among the GBL’s best Wicked Local The Greater Boston League’s cross-country meet took place last Thursday, May 13, at MacDonald Park against the backdrop of a perfect spring day, which featured many excellent races. It was also Medford’s Senior Day, and the Mustangs’ six graduating harriers of Rayanne Forbes, Bella Grieco, Emily Stanley, Sam Cluggish, Andrew Olivieri and Stefan Langshur were so honored for their contributions to the program the last four years. The Medford girls sent their senior teammates off with a league championship to complete an undefeated 6-0 season rather appropriately. “They have worked hard during this time of uncertainly, and were rewarded with this win, as well as an undefeated in dual meet season,” said coach Lou Ruggiero. ....

Medford boys lost to powerhouse Somerville; girls keep on winning Medford harriers get split decision Wicked Local The Medford High School cross-country teams took on host Somerville at the Blessing of the Bay Boat House. The temperatures were ideal for running, albeit quite windy. The Medford boys (1-1) faced probably the top team in the Greater Boston League [GBL] this year, and as a result they lost the meet, 23-37. Despite the loss, their efforts resulted in some excellent times on the 2.5-mile course, according to coach Lou Ruggiero. “Several of our runners showed great improvement, which is what I was looking for,” the coach added. ....
Medford harriers off to fast start Wicked Local The Medford boys and girls cross-country teams finally got a chance to do something they really enjoy, and that is being a part of an athletic team and running for the Mustangs. “After what has happened over the past year, it was great to see them able to compete against another team,” said coach Lou Ruggiero. “I say thanks to our athletic director Bobby Maloney, and all of the GBL [Greater Boston League] directors for such a strong effort to make it happen. “Today (Monday, April 19), the boys ran against a good Revere team that beat us rather easily last year, but this year we turned the tables on them with a strong effort, resulting in a 22-33 win,” added Ruggiero. ....
Medford Mustangs dedicate season to former advisor Bob Bigelow Dom Nicastro Correspondent The Medford High School boys basketball team, starting its season just last week, is great on many levels. The Mustangs get to play after a long delay due to COVID-19 precautions taken by the Greater Boston League. The sport usually starts the Monday after Thanksgiving. They played their first game last Saturday, March 6, against host Malden, and ended up beating their longtime rivals, 61-43. But it’s also great because Medford gets to dedicate the season to longtime friend and advisor of the program Bob Bigelow, former NBA player and Winchester great, who died suddenly last summer at the age of 66. ....
