Cameron Art Museum is displaying 100 new works from North Carolina artist Robert Johnson. Surreal land- and waterscapes showcase 41 N.C. state parks, and the differences in flora, fauna, and all the creatures inhabiting the areas. 
Johnson spent a year traveling and sketching in the wild, capturing the mood of the environments. (Port City Daily interviewed the artist in February, which can be read here). As it turns out, the artist — whose love for the western part of the state is well-documented — said one of his favorite stops was at Carolina Beach State Park. ....

1955 - Elvis Presley signed a management contract with Colonel Tom Parker. Parker had previously managed the Great Parker Pony Circus with one of the acts being a troupe of dancing chickens.
1968 - The Rolling Stones started daily sessions at Olympic Studios in London to start recording their next album, Beggars Banquet. Working from 7pm to 8am each day without a break, the Stones worked on Jumpin’ Jack Flash , Child Of The Moon , Jigsaw Puzzle and Parachute Woman as well as the instrumental foundation for a song called Did Everybody Paid Their Dues? (which would later become Street Fighting Man ). ....

Two blues enthusiasts an ocean apart spent nearly two decades collaborating on a book they envisioned as the definitive history of the blues in Texas. Robert “Mack” McCormick was a Houston-based folklorist and Paul Oliver was a music historian from England. At one point in the 1970s, their correspondence turned to the title of their book as they considered some variant of “Blues Come to Texas Loping Like a Mule” from a “Blind” Lemon Jefferson song.
