Bars have always been associated with drinking adult beverages, but now Teresa Stone and Ayanna Ballard are trying something new. They opened Wing Heaven Sports Haven on MLK in Lansing (Old Ziggy s location), for people who like to socialize and have a place to go where there is no pressure to drink. They think people in recovery still want to be part of the social scene, and this is the perfect place for it. Their new venture has a mission to create a friendly and safe environment for those in recovery.

Helping those in recovery is a major passion of Stokes, who is also the co-founder of the sober living program Pinnacle Recovery Services. She also manages several recovery houses in the Greater Lansing area and works in residential treatment. “People new to recovery have to change their people, places and things. Lansing s Wing Heaven Sports Haven opened this week, just in time for March Madness. It s a bar that doesn t serve alcohol.
Co-owner Theresa Stokes told the Lansing State Journal that the bar has a niche market, people who are in recovery, or people who just don t want to be around drinkers.
When you are on probation or anything, you can t even go to Applebee s because they serve alcohol, but you still need somewhere to go and have social engagement other than AA or NA meetings.
They can come here and watch a game, shoot pool or play air hockey. It s the same environment as a bar, minus the alcohol. ....

That s how co-owner Teresa Stokes described Wing Heaven Sports Haven, the state s first sober bar, which opens in Lansing next week.
It has the TVs, the pool tables, the air hockey everything a sports bar needs to be successful. Just no alcohol.
The bar caters specifically to people who are in recovery or on probation or parole anyone who cannot or does not want to be around alcohol, Stokes said.
