Bigger brothers reel in biggest catch of the day, win tournament

BRIMLEY Only 10 fish were hauled in and weighed by 22 different teams representing several law enforcement agencies as a part of Monday’s 19th annual “Bay of Pigs” tournament/fundraiser on Brimley Bay.
“It was a very slow tournament this year,” said Phillip Donnay of the Sault Ste Marie Police Department, organizer of the event. “(This was) the biggest tournament but the fishing was horrible. We caught bullhead and a lot of other fish, but no walleye. Looking forward to next year.” 
Bruce and Ernie Bigger ran away with the tournament by totaling four fish weighing at 13.4 pounds. Bruce is a retired police officer from St. Ignace. The brothers took home $700 for placing first and an additional $100 for netting the day’s biggest fish, topping the scale at 4.68 pounds. The Biggers are no strangers to victory as they took first place in the Bay of Pigs tournament in years ....

SAULT STE. MARIE The Sault s Department of Public Works has been working to prepare the Aune Osborn Campground for the upcoming camping season starting May 15. 
Trisha Kiczenski, recreation coordinator of the Sault Ste. Marie Department of Public Works, said the staff runs through a pre-season checklist. This list includes routine maintenance, hiring staff, ordering supplies, reinstating utilities to the park, equipment checks, lining up contracted services, accessing necessary repairs to building, lighting and grounds and basic spring cleanup of the sites. 
“Currently, we just completed spring grounds work to improve drainage at the park,” said  Kiczenski. “This has been an ongoing project and is in its third year. In the past, the campground had the issue of standing water after heavy rainfalls. This problem has now been corrected by our Department of Public Works by install ....

Sault to represent state of Michigan in COVID-19 memorial

Update: There has been a location change. The ceremony will now take place in Avery Center located on Ashmun Street due to the winter weather.
SAULT STE. MARIE The Sault will be the only city in Michigan representing the state on the National Day of Mourning for those who have lost their lives to COVID-19. 
We are especially proud of the event organizers who have taken to time to arrange the memorial, said city manager Brian Chapman. This event will not only serve as a memorial for those that we have lost to COVID, but it’s a powerful reminder that we are all in this together.   ....
