VINCI Airports’ network handled slightly over 10 million passengers in Q1 2021, i.e. 82.4% less than in Q1 2019. The trend in March 2021 is similar: traffic was 82.7% lower than in March 2019.
Passenger numbers are still sluggish as the pandemic continues to rage in some regions. Air traffic dropped sharply in Europe in Q1 as the number of Covid-19 infections rose. The company hopes to implement environmental infrastructures at the hubs, with a focus on post-pandemic recovery
VINCI Airports has been awarded a 30-year concession for seven airports in the northern region of Brazil including Manaus, Porto Velho, Rio Branco, Boa Vista, Cruzeiro do Sul, Tabatinga and Tefe.
These facilities – which are a gateway to the Amazon region and neighbouring Brazilian states – welcomed 4.7 million passengers collectively in 2019.
VINCI also plans on transforming these sites into eco-efficient hubs. The airport operator has plans to reach net-zero emissions, set up photovoltaic farms, focus on waste and water management, establish biodiversity laboratories and create carbon sink projects with local NGOs. ....
