PAN Niger- Delta Forum, PANDEF, former Provost Marshal, Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Idada Ikponmwen (retd), agitators and other Niger Delta stakeholders, yesterday, upbraided Muslim cleric, Sheikh Gumi, over his claim that rampaging Fulani herdsmen were militants and not bandits.
National Publicity Secretary, PANDEF, Ken Robinson, said, “It is unfortunate that the nation should be hearing one absurd statement or the other from this man, every day. It is high time that the media stopped giving him attention. He is nothing other than an eccentric bigot, a paladin of marauders and murderers, dressed in cleric’s toga. ....

The comment by a prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, that herdsmen learned kidnapping from Niger Delta militants, has drawn the ire of people of the region who said the Niger Delta struggle is different from the heart-rending crimes being perpetrated by killer-herdsmen in the country.
Lending his voice to the issue, South South Leader, Chief Edwin Clark lampooned Gumi, saying his statement that Fulani herdsmen and armed bandits learnt how to kidnap from Niger Delta militants was not only criminal, but obnoxious and stupid. ....

N’Delta youths, agitators rebuff MEND’s ultimatum to Akpabio, NDDC

Youths and agitators in Niger-Delta have kicked against the seven-day ultimatum by the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger-Delta, MEND, to the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godwill Akpabio and Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, over the issuance of deployment letter to youths employed by the interventionist agency.
They also cautioned the Interim Administrator, NDDC, Mr. Effiong Akwa, to be wary of unnecessary appointments being churned out from his office as some highly-placed politicians were reportedly sponsoring moles “to cause distraction and scuttle the outcome of the forensic audit.” ....

Ex-militants, yesterday, issued a 30-day ultimatum to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and the Federal Government to vacate property belonging to Government Ekpemupolo, otherwise known as Tompolo’s or face renewed hostilities in the Niger Delta.
The group under the aegis of the 21st Century Youths of the Niger Delta and Agitators With Conscience (21st CYNDAC) warned that the Ijaw nation and Niger Delta youths would no longer fold their hands and watch a leader of the region unjustly framed up politically and oppressed with federal might.
It urged President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently intervene over EFCC’s refusal to vacate Tompolo’s property and unfreeze his accounts. ....
