Spread the word.
(December 20, 2020, Chicago, JNS Wire) Rav Schwartz led the American Jewish community for over sixty years and the Chicago Jewish community for over thirty, serving as the present Rosh Beth Din of the Chicago Rabbinical Council and as Av Beth Din of Beth Din of America.
He was a universally recognized leader of American Jewry, whose psak halacha and wise counsel were sought by innumerable lay people, community leaders, and rabbis alike. ....

The American Rabbi's Rabbi

The American Rabbi’s Rabbi
By Rabbi Haim Jachter | December 16, 2020
If I were to ask our readers if they heard of Rav Hershel Schachter and Rav Mordechai Willig, their answers most likely would be “of course.” However, if we asked if they are familiar with Rav Gedalia Dov Schwartz, zt”l, who passed away last week at the age of 95, the answer would likely be no. Although Rav Schwartz was of the same stature and
caliber (and hashkafic orientation) as Rav Schachter and Rav Willig, he forged a different rabbinic path.
Rav Schachter and Rav Willig are quintessential Yeshiva University roshei yeshiva and roshei kollel. Rav Gedalia Dov Schwartz was more focused on the rabbinate and beit din world. For the last 30 years, Rav Schwartz had the final word regarding all highly sensitive matters of personal status questions within the Modern Orthodox community. Hundreds of rabbis addressed their most challenging problems to Rav Schwartz ....

JTA  Officials in the Chicago area are struggling to uncover whether an Orthodox Jewish wedding that violated public health restrictions led to new COVID-19 cases in the hard-hit city.
About 150 guests attended the wedding in a Chicago suburb on December 2 at a time when 14.8% of COVID-19 tests in the surrounding county were coming back positive.
The wedding made local news as the latest in a series of events in Orthodox communities that have defied public health guidance and local ordinances. But public health officials charged with tracking the spread of the coronavirus said last week that they had been unable to obtain a list of guests who would need to quarantine or even the name of the bride and groom. ....

Small Synagogues Discuss Returning to Full Operations - The 5 Towns Jewish Times

The 5 Towns Jewish Times
December 14, 2020
Responding to the challenges that many smaller Orthodox Jewish shuls are experiencing in engaging and growing their communities during the pandemic, the Orthodox Union’s Pepa and Rabbi Joseph Karasick Department of Synagogue & Community Services recently convened rabbinic and lay leadership from more than 21 smaller Orthodox communities to virtually discuss and collaborate on strategies to help them unite and ignite their synagogues throughout turbulent times where communal physical gatherings in their buildings have been on pause for close to nine months.
A major challenge many communities are concerned about is how to bring their small backyard minyanim back into the brick-and-mortar sanctuary, as many are worried that participants have grown increasingly comfortable in these small settings. ....
