ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - The pandemic is taking its toll on many students, but for those needing the most intensive mental healthcare, help has been harder and harder to come by.
The Therapeutic Day Treatment (TDT) program, a statewide out-of-school treatment for students with the greatest mental health needs, has been seeing declining enrollment since June 2019. After first hearing about the issue in the news, and then hearing directly from affected constituents, 57th District Delegate Rob Bell (R) introduced a bill to try to reverse the trend. ....

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Central Virginia’s lawmakers are now back to work for this year’s meeting of the General Assembly. It’s a race against the clock in this year’s short session, further compounded by the rule that delegates only get to introduce seven bills, a limit introduced to help deal with the technological shortcomings of legislating from a distance due to COVID-19.
Delegate Rob Bell (R-58th District) is focusing on some key changes for mental and behavioral health and ID laws for Virginians with special needs. One bill, H.B. 2236, aims to transfer supervision in cases where the person on the behavioral health docket does not live where they were in court.
