Council workshops are valuable, because local government deals with complex issues.
No decisions can be made in a workshop, and that is a legal requirement, but workshops are an opportunity for staff and councillors to
understand the quite serious issues facing their ratepayers. After the workshops it gives staff the chance to then prepare their reports for committee deliberation, where debate in public takes place.
Workshops should not include the public, until all councillors are fully understanding of policy changing options, which they debate in public, and then open for consultation with their communities so everyone can be involved. ....

As has been the case for decades, Afghanistan continues to face a complex situation ahead. President Joe Biden has met the challenge presented to the US halfway, by deciding to withdraw troops by September 11 this year. He has, however, abandoned the plan by former president Trump to vacate completely by May, a situation which would once again have left the country in limbo, and possibly allowed the Taliban and the various warlords who control large stretches of Afghan territory to once again plunge the country into chaos. This is what happened after the Soviets withdrew in 1989.
The Afghan people deserve peace. The question is how they can move towards this. The new timeframe set by the US gives the Taliban and the Afghan government more time to negotiate. The Taliban have said they are willing to do so. And a representative of the Afghan government has said it is their duty to defend the country. But there is a warning too from the T ....

BAHAWALPUR: South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Capt (retd) Saqib Zafar visited the proposed site for offices and residences of officers and staff of South Punjab Secretariat here on Monday.
He directed the early development of the South Punjab Secretariat Complex and residential area. He said that all the concerned departments must complete the paperwork as early and possible and start the development work. Later, he paid a surprise visit to Ramazan Bazaar. He visited various stalls and checked the quality of items being sold. He directed to ensure the availability of essential commodities in adequate quantity. ....
