Congress is in the midst of pushing a new COVID-19 stimulus package and part of that package includes a federal minimum wage increase. The minimum wage has remained at $7.25 since 2009, depending on your state, and movie theater owners are warning that a federal minimum wage increase would be disastrous for their business in the wake of the pandemic.
The movie theater business was demolished in 2020 as movie theaters began to shutter in March of last year due to the pandemic. In the subsequent months, some locations in certain states have reopened but at limited capacity while major markets such as Los Angeles and New York City, remain closed. One of San Francisco’s historic movie theaters has closed permanently, felled by the pandemic, KQED reported.
The CinéArts at the Empire movie theater first opened in 1925 as the Portal Theatre. It only had one screen back then, like many other theaters that opened at the time. The cinema would see several name changes throughout the years, becoming the Empire in 1936 and then CinéArts at the Empire after Cinemark acquired the property.
The theater was an important part of the West Portal neighborhood and beyond. For many residents in the area, it was their local cinema and a community gathering space. On Halloween, for instance, the theater would join other businesses on the block to offer candy for young trick-or-treaters. ....

Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021 may be widely known as the day before Inauguration Day, but it s also marked off on calendars across the US as National Popcorn Day. 
Some companies, such as Cinemark Holdings, Inc. and its movie theaters, are observing the day with specials. Cinemark s week-long Cinemark Popcorn Fest, held from Monday, January 18 until Sunday, January 24, gives guests $2 off any size popcorn at all Cinemark theaters serving concessions.
In addition to the week-long deal, Cinemark is celebrating the start of 2021 by giving 21 Cinemark moviegoers free popcorn for a year. ....

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Going to the movie theater has become a thing of the past since the coronavirus made its way to the U.S.
They cited a lack of new film content and working to better serve the moviegoing demand for the closure. Below is an official statement from Cinemark:
Based on limited supply of new film content and to better align with moviegoing demand in the community, Cinemark is temporarily closing its Century 20 El Con and XD theatre.
