Three-week long festival celebrating the Thames Estuary begins today


TODAY marks the opening day of the much-awaited Estuary Festival.
The three-week festival will take place across multiple sites along the Essex and Kent shorelines (including many events in Southend, Pitsea, Chalkwell and Shoebury) and will feature an array of artistic and literary lectures and workshops, visual art installations, films, talks and community activities all themed on the Thames estuary’s past, present and future.
The opening weekend programme will kick off with ‘Unknown Earth’ – which will see 22 hours of live broadcast discussion and specially commissioned online artworks exploring the festival themes of climate, rebellion and imperial legacy.
Audiences will be able to stream a mix of panel discussions, readings, artist presentations and films, and experience artworks- all available for free at estuaryfestival.com. ....

MoMA Appoints Marie-Josée Kravis Chairperson To Replace Tarnished Leon Black
The Museum of Modern Art has replaced their Chairman Leon Black, a private equity investor and owner of Phaidon Press, with Marie-Josée Kravis, a highly regarded Canadian philanthropist and collector. The museum felt the long-running saga was too much of a distraction for the institution, which hopes to get back to business after the COVID hiatus.
Black is best known as the co-founder and former CEO of private equity firm Apollo Global Management. He stepped down as CEO and chairman in 2021 after revelations that he paid Jeffrey Epstein $158 million for family office tax-related advice over the period from 2012 to 2017. Black is also the owner of a version of Edvard Munch’s The Scream, which realized $119.9 million, the highest price ever paid for a work of art at auction at that time. ....
