Sheep Inc creates 'industry first' carbon negative clothing

Retailing at £140, each hoodie removes more CO2 from the atmosphere than its manufacturing creates, as the carbon footprint of each garment is -4kg.
At the raw material stage, Sheep Inc used extra-fine 19.5μ Merino wool from three regenerative sheep stations in New Zealand: Lake Hawea Station, Middlehurst Station and Omarama Station.
The three farms use innovative land management, feeding and grazing techniques to capture more CO2 from the atmosphere than their operations emit, making their properties, as well as the wool they produce, carbon negative
. This carbon-negative fibre is then processed by Sheep Inc’s supply chain partners across Europe, who run on 100% solar power, to spin the yarn, manufacture the garment and run logistics. ....

How can brands and retailers overcome traceability challenges to map exactly where their raw materials are coming from?
The fashion industry s notoriously long, fragmented and opaque supply chains can conceal human rights and environmental abuses. The Modern Slavery Act 2015 was introduced to try to make companies responsible for ensuring their supply chains were free from exploitation, but it was not until last month that the government announced financial penalties for those that fail to comply (box below).
The government s action follows a December BBC exposé of the forced labour of Uyghur Muslim people in the cotton industry in the Xinjiang region of western China. Several UK retailers, including Marks & Spencer, Next, and Tesco, banned the use of raw cotton from Xinjiang as a result. ....

Swedish clothing brand Filippa K has appointed Rikard Frost as its new CEO.
Prior to this, Frost spent over a decade leading digital transformation at Acne Studios.
Rikard will join Filippa K at the Stockholm headquarters on 1 April. Until then, Erik Björk will continue as interim CEO for Filippa K.
