Exceptional Canadians recognized by the Administrator in virtual presentation ceremonies

OTTAWA During a series of private virtual ceremonies, His Excellency the Right Honourable Richard Wagner, P.C., Administrator of the Government of Canada, presented a variety of Canadian honours. These private virtual ceremonies were attended by a small gathering of family and friends to celebrate each individual’s extraordinary accomplishments.
Many honours exist within the Canadian Honours System, including the Order of Canada, the Meritorious Service Decorations and the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. The recipients come from all walks of life, but all share a desire to help others, to achieve excellence and to contribute to their communities and to Canada. ....

Dr. Roland Case receives Governor General Medal - Faculty of Education

Congratulations to Dr. Roland Case! Dr. Case, a retired professor in the Education faculty, and co-founder and former executive director of The Critical Thinking Consortium has been awarded the Governor General’s Meritorious Service Medal.
Meritorious Service Decorations recognize Canadians for exceptional deeds accomplished over a limited period of time that bring honour to the country, recognizing contributions from advocacy initiatives and health care services, to research and humanitarian efforts. 
Dr. Case’s work in education and re-imagining teaching and learning to focus on nurturing thinking in all students has resulted in a transformative impact on education in every province and territory in Canada.  ....

Tookenay recognized by Governor General for education work – Fort Frances Times


It still hasn’t completely sunk in for Brent Tookenay.
“It was a big surprise” he said. “It’s a pretty nice honour, it was not expected at all. It was pretty cool.”
In an announcement that might not be so surprising to those who know him and his work, Tookenay was revealed to be among the recipients of the Governor General of Canada’s Meritorious Service Decoration for February 2021. Along with several dozen other individuals from across Canada, Tookenay was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (M.S.M.) “for leading the growth of the Seven Generations Education Institute, where he has helped facilitate the increased participation and success of Indigenous students” according to the release announcing his recognition. ....

New Brunswicks 5-year Health-care plan will begin with consultations this week
Ron Aiken, Sackville’s acting mayor, tells Global News – that more services like surgeries, acute care beds and diagnostic units would help alleviate the workload at bigger, urban hospitals, and that more local control over health care would help improve the system because each community is different.
