The remains of a former Chief of Defence Staff, Joshua Dogonyaro, were laid to rest in Langtang, Plateau State, on Friday.
Mr Dogonyaro, a retired lieutenant general and former military administrator of Plateau State, died at the age of 80 last month.

The former Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, during the Government of late General Sani Abacha, Lt-Gen. Joshua Nimyel Dogonyaro has passed on. He was aged 80.
Dogonyaro’ first son, Joseph who confirmed the demise of the former Defence chief, said “Daddy has been sick for some time until yesterday (Wednesday) when he had a stroke and we rushed him to the Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH, for medical attention. Unfortunately, early this morning (yesterday), around 3.00am precisely, he breathed his last.
“His death comes as a rude shock to us as a family. We are going to miss his love and warmth as a grandfather, father, brother, uncle and supporter.” ....

Lieutenant General Joshua Dogonyaro, a former Chief of Defence Staff during the late General Sani Abacha’s regime, died on Thursday.
Born on September 12, 1940, in Vom, Plateau State, Dogonyaro was the officer that read the coup speech that ousted the then General Muhammadu Buhari as military ruler.
The coup brought in the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida junta on August 27, 1985.
Dogonyaro died at the Jos University Teaching Hospital where he was admitted after a brief illness. His remains have been deposited at the Air Force Hospital in Jos.
Dogoyaro was a member of the Langtang Mafia in Nigeria’s military circle. The clique comprises military men from Langtang, Plateau, who served or are still in the military. ....

Despite appeals by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State to the people of his State to observe COVID-19 protocols, Muslims in Bauchi, the state capital, have flouted them, trooping out in their numbers to observe the two Rakaah Eid-el-Fitr prayers.
Mohammed had, in his goodwill message to mark this year’s celebration, warned people of the dangers of contracting COVID-19 and urged them to observe safety protocols like wearing face masks, hand washing and social-distancing.
“The COVID-19 pandemic is still around. I, therefore, appeal to you all to continue to observe the protocols of social distancing, wearing of facemasks and washing your hands wherever the need arises. You should also endeavour to take the vaccine against the pandemic,” the governor admonished. ....
