BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Mountain Brook High School downed Spanish Fort 56-43 Wednesday at UAB’s Bartow Arena for the Spartans’ sixth state championship. Mountain Brook 6′6″ senior Rayven Turner scored 14 points, including two 3-pointers, pulled down four rebounds. It was his defensive presence inside, however, that earned him MVP honors for the 2021 AHSAA Class 6A State Championships.
The Spartans (30-6) led 41-34 after senior point guard Bo Barber led by only two points at 43-41 in the final period when Spanish Fort (28-4), coached by Jimbo Tolbert, clawed away and pulled to a 43-41 deficit when Kolby Horace made a layup with 3:48 left. The Spartans, coached by T ....

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WAFF) - Day two of State basketball belongs to our Class 1A schools. There were two early afternoon games on tap at Bill Harris arena, starting with the Bulldogs of Belgreen.
The Belgreen High School boys’ basketball team didn’t have any trouble shooting in the new environment Tuesday.
The Bulldogs opened the game by hitting six of their first seven shots, including a trio of 3-pointers, to build a double-digit lead midway through the first quarter the AHSAA Class 1A State Basketball Championships semifinals at Bill Harris Arena at the Birmingham Crossplex and rolled to a 66-44 win over Notasulga. ....

Amber Alert issued in south Louisiana


HAMMOMD, La. - Police say they have located two boys who went missing from their father s home in Ponchatoula across state lines in Florida, and are currently searching for their biological mother who is suspected in the kidnapping. 
Louisiana State Police originally said Kaesyn Heck, 8, and Jax Matthews, 4, went missing from their home sometime Tuesday. 
But in an update Wednesday afternoon, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff s Office said the boys were located safe and unharmed in Santa Rosa County, Florida. 
Sheriff Jimmy Travis said the boys were in good condition physically, but said he didn t know about their mental state. 
They were able to locate the children but the female fled on foot. They’re still searching for her. The children are currently in protective custody, he said. They appear to be safe and fine. ....
