Day after crisis, hospital still faces O2 shortage | India News

PANAJI: A day after 26 Covid patients died at Goa Medical College (GMC) due to a dip in oxygen supply, its shortage continued to cripple the state’s premier government hospital, with several more suffering from severe Covid pneumonia and acute respiratory distress dying on Wednesday.
Patients with severe Covid pneumonia bore the brunt of the desaturation in SpO2 levels. Many GMC doctors confirmed that patients lost their lives in the early hours of Wednesday. TOI could not independently confirm the figure. “The situation seems to be recurring,” said the relative of a patient in a social media post.
A doctor said an elderly woman’s SpO2 level had dropped after the central line oxygen flow petered out. The other patient in the room shared his cylinder to stabilise the woman. ....

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the federal government to fix the price of an oxygen cylinder besides adopting a procedure for the determination of its price.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed and comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel heard a suo moto case regarding corona.
The court expressed dissatisfaction over the reports submitted by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) as well as the Sindh government and sought fresh reports on the next date of hearing. The court directed the Industry and Production Ministry to fix the price of an oxygen cylinder within two days besides working out a procedure to determine its price. ....

Ghaziabad: As the surge in the pandemic floods it with patients, it takes little for the District Combined Hospital in Ghaziabad, a 100-bed L2 facility, to descend into chaos. With tempers running high, patients attendants regularly misbehave with doctors and even snatch oxygen cylinders meant for centralised supply.
Moreover, the hospital is grappling with an acute shortage of doctors. At present, there is no physician, anaesthetist and chest physician to deal with critical patients.
