Silverado Berkeley receives first dose of COVID-19 vaccine post-outbreak

The Silverado Berkeley Memory Care Community worked with CVS Pharmacy to provide residents and associates with the first dose of Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine Jan. 20, according to Silverado’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Jeff Frum. He added that there have been 54 cases of COVID-19 among residents since early December, with 14 of these residents having died due to complications with COVID-19. ....

Fourteen people who had COVID-19 have died at Silverado memory care home in central Berkeley, making its outbreak the second deadliest at a long-term care facility in Alameda County, according to state data.
On Wednesday afternoon, the outdoor lobby of the care facility at Sacramento Street (at Bancroft Way) had a joyous buzz as residents and staff signed up for their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. But the outbreak and subsequent deaths has been devastating for the home, which cares for about 80 elderly residents who all have dementia, which includes Alzheimer’s disease. ....

Silverado Berkeley experiences COVID-19 outbreak

After a surge of post-Thanksgiving COVID-19 cases in the Bay Area, Silverado Berkeley Memory Care Community experienced an outbreak among its residents and staff.
The memory care community, which provides assisted living to those who are memory-impaired, identified the first cases of the outbreak in early December. As of press time, 38 residents and 12 associates have tested positive, according to Silverado Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Jeff Frum.
Frum said two residents have died due to COVID-19-related complications. Two other residents who were “nearing the end of their battle with dementia” before testing positive have also died, Frum added. ....
