In deadliest month, state records 1,547 deaths in April alone | Ranchi News


Ranchi: With 120 deaths on Friday, Jharkhand recorded the deadliest month of the pandemic with 1,547 Covid-19 deaths in April this year. The fatalities in the past 30 days were higher than Jharkhand’s death toll between March 2020 and March 31 this year, when a total of 1,113 people succumbed to the viral infection.
Meanwhile, 5,961 fresh cases pushed the active cases to 57,716 on Friday in the state.
Ranchi reported 45 deaths while Dhanbad reported 13. East Singhbhum reported 12 deaths while Bokaro saw eight deaths. Lohardaga and Deoghar reported 6 deaths each while five deaths were reported from Khunti. Three deaths each were reported from Palamu, Hazaribag and Ramgarh. ....

NEW DELHI: India’s coronavirus death toll shot past 204,000 Wednesday as a relentless wave of new cases swamped hospitals and sent desperate families out into the streets of the capital in search of oxygen supplies and medicine.
Infection and death rates are soaring in the vast country of 1.3 billion, in contrast with the United States and some European nations which are taking tentative steps back towards normal life. The virus has now killed more than 3.1 million people worldwide, with India driving the latest surge, recording 345,398 new infections a global record and 3,130 deaths on Wednesday. ....

Highest-ever death toll: Corona situation becomes alarming

ISLAMABAD: A complete lockdown seems imminent as more than 200 COVID-19 deaths were reported for the first time in Pakistan since the start of the pandemic. According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), as many as 201 people died of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours taking the death toll to 17,530 in the country.
Punjab suffered most with 127 fatalities due to the contagion and 8,224 acquired the infection in last 24 hours. At least 45 more patients succumbed to the novel coronavirus in K-P with 4,624 new cases, Sindh reported 1,029 with 19 more deaths. AJK reported 152 new Covid-19 infections and four deaths, followed by 173 new cases in Balochistan with one more death. ....
