Brandon Stanley Johnson, 38 of Albert Lea, is charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, felony theft, and first-degree criminal damage to property. The Freeborn County Sheriff s Office says a deputy attempted to stop Johnson on January 12 after seeing him driving with no lights on at 2:24 am near St. Peter Avenue and Eberhardt Street. Johnson is accused of speeding away and driving through a barbed wire fence before getting stuck in the snow on Neal Street. ....
KAAL-TV Created: March 10, 2021 02:29 PM (ABC 6 News) - Court documents filed Wednesday show the Minnesota Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Freeborn County Sheriff Kurt Freitag in a salary dispute. In 2018, Sheriff Freitag presented his salary request asking for an approximate 23% raise bringing his salary from $92,403 to $113,952. Freitag argued he was being underpaid for the work he was doing and his salary was less than sheriffs in neighboring counties of similar size. The Board of Commissioners instead approved a 5% raise. A district court sided with Sheriff Freitag, but the appeals court reversed the court ruling last November. Court documents show the Supreme Court believed no member of the Freeborn County Board of Commissioners articulated a reason behind basis for the salary the County Board set for the Freeborn County Sheriff, the district court did not clearly err when it concluded that the salary determination was a ....

Freeborn County is seeing serious traffic crashes and fatalities on the rise. You have less vehicle traffic, less miles traveled, but you have an increase in the number of crashes and they should not be adding up. With less people out, you should have less crashes, Lt. Jeffrey Strom of Albert Lea Police Department said. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the state saw a 100% increase from 2019 to 2020 in the number of citations written to those speeding over 100 mph. ....
Woman hurt in Freeborn County rollover Happened Thursday afternoon on I-90. Posted: Jan 21, 2021 8:07 PM Posted By: Mike Bunge MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, Minn. – An SUV crashed on Interstate 90 Thursday afternoon, sending one person to the hospital. The Minnesota State Patrol says Kim Elizabeth Kastens, 48 of Wells, was westbound on I-90 when she went off the road near mile marker 155 and rolled into the median. This happened around 4:52 pm. Kastens was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The State Patrol says road conditions were snowy and icy at the accident scene. The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and Mayo Ambulance assisted with this crash. ....
