Study: 25 mega-cities produce more than half the world's urban greenhouse gas emissions

According to research from China, 25 mega-cities are responsible for more than half of the world s urban greenhouse gas emissions. Cities in China, as well as in Japan and Russia, are notably singled out in the study.
Global greenhouse gas emissions are largely being driven by a small fraction of cities, according to a new study by researchers from China s Sun Yat-sen University and the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Environmental Pollution Control and Remediation Technology in Guangzhou.
The research reveals that, among 167 cities studied, more than 50% of urban greenhouse gas emissions are emitted by 25 very large cities. Among these are 23 Chinese cities – including Shanghai, Beijing and Handan – as well as Tokyo and Moscow. ....

Arachchi the former Director General of Central Environmental Authority (CEA)
has joined the board of Directors of H2O1.
Muthukuda Arachchi is a highly experienced senior scientist
counting over 30 years of experience in the industry. In addition to serving as
the Director General of the CEA, he has also served as the Head of the
Environmental Pollution Control (EPC) unit as Deputy Director General for over

National tree plantation campaign to help boost green coverage: Shahab

DHAKA, Feb 25, 2021 (BSS) – The National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2021 will be held this year aiming at encouraging people to plant trees and conserve forest to increase the country’s green coverage.
The theme of the campaign and fair is ‘Mujib Barshe Angikar Kori, Shonar Bangla Gare Tuli’, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin told a preparatory inter-ministerial meeting at the Secretariat here today.
The meeting was arranged ahead of the World Environment Day and Environment Fair 2021 and the National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2021, said a ministry press release. ....

Eco-Spindles breaks ground on new polyester yarn facility

Targeting export demand for
recycled polyester fabrics
Pioneering Sri Lankan plastic bottle recycler and
manufacturer of polyester yarn and monofilaments, Eco-Spindles (Pvt.) Ltd commenced
Phase 2 of its expansion strategy to add 20,000 sq.ft of production space at
its state-of-the-art facility in Horana.
Already one of only two such facilities in the entire
world, once completed, the expanded facility will double polyester yarn
production capacity at Eco-Spindles.
The foundation stone was laid by Secretary to the
