Free zones make Qatar less import-dependent

The Director of Customs Air Cargo and Private Airports, Ahmed Al Khanji, disclosed that the Free Zones in Ras Bu Funtas, Umm Al Houl, and Al Karaana would support Qatar’s economy to become less importdependent.
The free zones aim to attract international companies to Qatar by providing them with business-friendly incentives. In the General Authority of Customs monthly newsletter, Al Khanji added that the free zone’s customs department handles imported goods to the companies to reduce customs procedures and then authorize the entry of these goods into or out of the area.
“The Free Zones Authority in the country was established by Emiri decree to establish three free zones in the country, namely (Ras Bufontas, Umm Al Houl, and Al Karaana) to support the national economy and attract international companies to invest in them, by providing incentives for them, so that Qatar becomes a pioneer in light, medium and heavy industri ....

Doha: The Quranic Botanic Garden (QBG), the first garden in the world to exhibit all plant species mentioned in the Holy Quran, Hadith, and Sunnah, celebrated Qatar Environment Day, held annually on February 26, with a wild plant restoration event at Rawdat Al Faras in Al Nasraniya.
The activity was held in partnership with the Environmental Protection Reserves & Wildlife Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, which allocated Rawdat Al Faras to be rehabilitated by QBG with the close cooperation of the Qatari National Committee for Education, Culture and Science that in turn coordinated the participation of Youth Affairs Department at the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and the Department of Conservation and Energy Efficiency ‘Tarsheed’ at ....

Doha: The General Authority of Customs (GAC) released nearly 300,000 declarations in January, it disclosed in its monthly newsletter.
Customs declarations reached 287,441, with air cargo customs recording the most with 263,230, while maritime customs completed 24,175 declarations. The percentage of customs declaration released in an hour was put at 99 percent.
The released data saw a significant drop in total declarations compared to December, which recorded 331,149 statements.
In the report, India remained the top exporting country, while the United States of America knocked off China as the leading importing country.
Meanwhile, the GAC recorded 2.580kg of hashish as the largest seizure last month, 105 seizure reports were made. The GAC also transferred 22,647 declarations to other government agencies. The Environmental Protection Reserves and Wi ....
