NEWPORT, Arkansas — A dog isn’t always man’s best friend, especially for more than a dozen women in an Arkansas prison. Inmates are living with troubled dogs and training them to become pets in more than half a dozen state prisons.
In a life filled with twists and turns, how you start doesn’t always determine where you finish.

UNM-Valencia's Ramsell named Coca-Cola Scholar | Education


TOME — Elizabeth Ramsell, a sophomore at The University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus, has been named a 2021 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship for the fall semester.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars with nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each scholar also receives a commemorative medallion.

Landmark barge feature in Radcliffe is shipshape once again


A GROUP of volunteers has come together to restore a Radcliffe landmark.
Headed up by Eric and Tracy Owen of Little Britain Anglers alongside Radcliffe Litter Pickers and using a grant from the Bury Community Fund, work has been taking place to spruce up the model of a canal barge on Water Street.
The barge reflects Radcliffe’s heritage as a major stop on the The Manchester Bolton and Bury Canal, which is now culverted under Water Street.
“It has been repainted and flowers have been planted,” said Gill Smith, of Radcliffe Litter Pickers. “ A bridge has also been added so it looks like the barge is coming out of a tunnel.”

The sale of RGB Building Supplies’ ‘Love where you live’ 2021 calendar has raised £3,140.50 for Devon Air Ambulance and Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust. 
The calendar features photographs that celebrate the region. All the photos were taken by South West residents, including pictures of Welcombe Mouth Beach by Andy Davey and Valley of the Rock by William Greatrex.  
Those included received a £100 RGB voucher.

Newtown heritage trail erects plaque at church


Six plaques have already been installed by Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council.
They can be found at the Oriel Davies Gallery, Frolic Street, Sarah Brisco House, The Old Horse Market, St Mary’s Church and the Royal Welsh Warehouse, otherwise known as the Pryce Jones building.
Councillor Tracy Owen: “We would like to thank everybody who has made the installation of the plaques possible and are looking forward to getting the rest installed next year.”

Online awareness programme launched to help prevent cervical cancer | Latest Newry News, Newry Sport and Newry Business for Newry City


 
 
This potentially life-saving online programme was developed by the Women’s Resource and Development Agency’s (WRDA) and offers free, easy to access information sessions that can help women make vital health decisions.
 
The work is funded by the Public Health Agency.
Women can access this information in three ways: there are new Zoom group sessions where women can ask questions and hear others’ concerns; a pre-recorded webinar video is also available to watch at any time, and a new animated video provides essential information to give a good introduction to cervical screening.
WRDA Director Anne McVicker said, “Cancer didn’t stop during Covid-19 and it’s vitally important that women feel comfortable going for screening now.
