New trustee joins Bennington College board

BENNINGTON — Odili Donald Odita, an abstract painter who received his master of fine arts from Bennington College in 1990, has joined the college’s board of trustees.
Odita was born in Enugu, Nigeria and lives and works in Philadelphia. He is an abstract painter exploring color both in the figurative historical context and in the sociopolitical sense.
In addition to general trustee duties, Odita will serve on the college’s education and community life committee.
“Odita’s creative, professional and sociopolitical expertise will be an immeasurable asset to our work,” said board chair Nick Stephens. “We look forward to working with him as we continue to strengthen Bennington’s position in higher education.” ....

Scranton hopes murals make city an arts destination


A new mural, seen Thursday, was painted on Catalano’s delicatessen and market in West Scranton as part of a public contest by NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania. The mural of a West Scranton High School football player sporting former Invader Matt McGloin’s number received the most votes of three designs by artist Eric Bussart. The Flynn announces new executive director


BURLINGTON — Jay Wahl, producing artistic director at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, has been hired as executive director of the Flynn. He succeeds Interim Executive Director Charlie Smith, who began in January 2020.
Wahl joins the Flynn after 11 years at the Kimmel Center, an inclusive organization that engages the Philadelphia region’s diverse communities through performance and education. Wahl served as an international liaison and advocate for the Kimmel Center and the Philadelphia arts community, programming and producing a wide range of performances, and spearheading efforts to bring diverse and inspiring artists to the city. In particular, Wahl is an expert in commissioning and facilitating works in public spaces, using unconventional platforms as a means of challenging the hierarchies, assumptions, and biases of traditional arts organizations. ....
