Maryland creates resource guide for young people coping with pandemic

Maryland’s Health Department is sending a youth resource guide to state and community health partners to help young people battling mental health and substance abuse issues related to the ongoing pandemic.
The state’s Behavioral Health Administration guide provides an expansive and evolving list of behavioral health resources for Maryland youth, including for mental health, suicide prevention, grief and loss support and substance use issues.
Studies show 1 in 3 people nationally reported depression and anxiety due to the pandemic and nearly half of 18- to 29-year-olds were among them, according to Maryland Health Department news release.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported more than 13% of people have either begun or stepped up their existing substance use to handle stress. ....

Regional Cancer Care Associates, based in New Jersey, has more than 20 locations throughout New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Pennsylvania and the Washington area. Staff realized they needed a risk-stratified list of patients for COVID-19 vulnerability that nurses could manage through phone calls and by coordinating services with other providers.
THE PROBLEM
Because of staffing challenges, the list had to identify only the high-risk patients who staff needed to manage first, not the entire population or those patients who could wait a bit longer for nurse outreach.
Even though we already had an indigenous and independent scoring logic/mechanism for patient risk, this was mainly based on a combination of comorbidities that differentiated it from the usual scoring techniques, explained Lani M. Alison, vice president of quality and value transformation at RCCA. ....

Johns Hopkins University has significantly expanded the amount of information available on its COVID-19 data dashboard, providing valuable new insights into testing and positive case trends among the university s employees and staff.
The data resource, now updated daily, tracks how many Hopkins students and employees have been tested for coronavirus and how many have tested positive. It includes a table showing positive cases by university division as well as information on how many JHU affiliates have tested positive in recent days, available isolation and quarantine capacity, and city and state case trends. ....
