FAIRMONT The Fairmont Opera House has been around for 120 years and has dealt with difficulties during this pandemic. Executive Director Blake Potthoff described himself as a competitive person who strives to be better and during this pandemic, he has found the light at the end of the tunnel and kept a positive attitude.
The idea of the Fairmont Opera House began in 1989 when Frank A. Day, founder of the Fairmont Sentinel began nudging businessmen to build an opera house. The concept lead to local businessmen forming the Fairmont Opera House Company in March of 1901 and begin construction of this building in 1901 for approximately $20,000. Coping with COVID: Borchardt Dance Company | News, Sports, Jobs

FAIRMONT–Borchardt Dance Company is not new to the Fairmont community. Nita Borchardt is the second-generation owner of the company and has kept her business going through the pandemic with adjustments and positivity.
Borchardt’s experience consists of dancing professionally for 12 years, including stints in New York, Los Vegas, and on cruise ships. Borchardt Dance Company was originally opened by her mother Kathy and has been around for 40 years. Borchardt came back to Fairmont five years ago and took ownership of the company from her mother in September of 2019.
The pandemic came six weeks away from their annual dance recital. Borchardt and her teachers adjusted to the pandemic by putting together videos for their kids to practice their dance routines and a week after the first shutdown the company moved to teaching over Facebook Live. During the second shutdown, the company moved to teaching Zoom classes. ....

FAIRMONT Heaven’s Table Food Shelf board member Greta Lintelman thinks highly of the way she, her other board members, and volunteers were able to keep the business open while dealing with a global pandemic. The process took a lot of adapting, changing things around and keeping this free service going.
“I think we’ve adapted pretty darn well,” Lintelman said. “We’ve all stayed well and all of our volunteer base has been very cautious with masking and staying safe.” ....

FAIRMONT Katelyn Draper, owner of Lakeside Salon and Spa, started her business in March of 2019, but being told to shut down her business in March of 2020 due to COVID-19 protocol was a tough thing to hear. But Draper stayed positive through it all.
Draper’s career in cutting hair spans 12 years, but she was given the chance to purchase the Lakeside Salon in March of 2019. Draper liked the idea and tried out her own little business in Fairmont that has been fun for her. ....

FAIRMONT Dalton Martinson, owner of Edie’s restaurant, like every small business owner responded to COVID-19 by keeping an open mind when facing hardships created by the nearly year-long pandemic and has made the best out of the circumstances.
Edie’s started here in Fairmont in 1973 by Martinson’s grandparents. The grandparents owned it for 10 years, eventually leading to Ron Martinson, Dalton’s father, owning it for the next 20 years. After Dalton’s father passed away in 2003, his uncle Randy Martinson stepped in and owned it until 2015 when Dalton purchased the family business. ....
