Pinellas County law enforcement agencies collected more than 800 pounds of medication during Saturday s Operation Medicine Cabinet events. (Shutterstock)
ST. PETERSBURG, FL The St. Petersburg Police Department and its law enforcement agency partners in Pinellas County collected 857 pounds of medication Saturday during the Operation Medicine Cabinet, according to a news release.
Operation Medicine Cabinet is a national day when law enforcement agencies set up locations for the public to properly dispose of medications, prevent children from accidental ingestion, prevent medicines from being thrown out into waterways, and to teach the public about prescription drug abuse.
St. Pete police had a drop-off location at Johns Hopkins All Children s Hospital, C Lot, Fifth Street South and Eight Avenue South, St. Petersburg. The event lasted until 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ....

Medicine collection event to be held at Costco

On Saturday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. a collection event (Operation Medicine Cabinet) will be held at Costco’s in Tallahassee, 4067 Lagniappe Way, for unwanted or unneeded medications, both over the counter and prescription.  
This collection event will provide City of Tallahassee and Leon County residents the opportunity to properly dispose of their unused or unneeded medications, protecting the environment and lessening the chances for the illegal and potentially harmful use of these drugs.
The event is being organized by the Southern Waste Information eXchange, Inc. (SWIX), in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Leon County Cares, Leon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), Costco, Mothers for Mother Earth, Inc., Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University’s Institute of Public Health, Florida State University’s Institute of ....
