While she cared for COVID-19 patients as a volunteer with the New York City Medical Reserve Corps at the height of the pandemic, Hina Naveed spent nights with her head in the books at the CUNY School of Law. A registered nurse, she earned her juris doctorate on Jan. 14, her third degree, from the City University of New York. ....

The Forest Avenue tradition will not see its 57th year, say organizers.
Former grand marshal and Doc Hennigan’s owner Dr. Craig Campbell said, “The COVID-19 situation prevents us from continuing as we have in the past. And the city is not giving out parade permits.” At the moment, state limits on events of any kinds are still 50 people. A spokesman for the mayor’s office confirmed no permits were being issued at this time. ....

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Jesus A. Santos entered eternal life peacefully in his home on January 9, 2021, in the loving care of his wife of 57 years, Narcy Santos, their three daughters, their husbands, and nine grandchildren. He was 80 years old. The West Brighton resident, affectionately known to many as “Jess,” was well-loved for his disarming sense of humor, kindness, humility, and lifelong devotion to his family. He was a devout parishioner of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, where he attended Mass daily after his retirement in 2005. ....

Individuals who are benefiting from the services VISIONS, a nonprofit rehabilitation and social service organization whose purpose is to develop and implement individualized programs to assist people who are blind and visually impaired of all ages to lead independent and active lives. It was an evening of entertainment and exceptional acceptance speeches where honorees conveyed their personal connection to VISIONS Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
“Holiday Voices for VISIONS,” a virtual awards ceremony, went off perfectly Tuesday evening. ....
