A woman police believe posed as a babysitter in a bid to abduct a 3-month-old baby boy from a Virginia home has confessed to orchestrating the crime through a fake Facebook profile, according to court records.
Tykirah Lashae Reid, 20, is accused of abducting Jiraiya Cherry from his Newport News family home on the morning of February 4. Family members reported him missing around 10:20 a.m.
The infant s uncle was at the family home in the 13000 block of Preakness Drive when the boy was abducted. He told police he was babysitting the infant and his 4-year-old niece when a woman hired by the baby s parents came to the house to assist him. ....

A Virginia man was convicted this week after leaving a loaded firearm within reach of his child, who unintentionally shot himself, marking the first case prosecuted under a new state law increasing penalties for “recklessly” leaving guns near children.
Radell J. Bolden, 36, who had his gun rights restored less than one month before the incident, was found guilty in Chesterfield General District Court under the new law, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
Bolden was sentenced to a year in jail with all 12 months suspended, as well as 24 hours of community service. He must also surrender his firearm and attend a firearm safety class. ....
