Lamborn leads ceremony renaming Briargate Post Office for fallen Army chaplain

U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn said Friday that he hopes the new name of the Briargate Post Office will remind people of Chaplain Captain Dale Goetz s patriotism and courage, as well as the courage and service of all military chaplains. Chaplain Goetz was a man of unwavering faith and repeatedly answered the call of duty to serve his country, said Lamborn. His devotion to others and his love of country were an example to all. The Colorado Springs Republican spoke at a ceremony to rename the post office at 8585 Criterion Drive for the Army captain who was killed in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device on Aug. 30, 2010 — the first chaplain killed in action since the Vietnam War.

Chaplain Alliance Comes to the Aid of a Military Minister Under Investigation for Anti-Transgender Comments

In January, I covered the story of Maj. Andrew Calvert. The U.S. Army chaplain recently perused a military newspaper’s Facebook page, whereupon he asked a question: “How is rejecting reality (biology) not evidence that a person is mentally unfit (ill), and thus making that person unqualified to serve?” He drew a connection to a different kind of denial: “There is little difference in this than over those who believe and argue for a ‘flat earth’ despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.” And he spoke of mental health: “The motivation is different, but the argument is the same. This person is a MedBoard for Mental Wellness waiting to happen. What a waste of military resources and funding!”

Army urged to protect religious freedom of chaplain punished for supporting transgender military ban

A U.S. Army chaplain leads soldiers in prayer while on overseas deployment. | AMERICAN BIBLE SOCIETY An advocacy group comprised of military chaplains has called on the United States Army to intervene on behalf of a chaplain who was punished for sharing his views on transgender ideology on Facebook. U.S. Army leadership reprimanded Chaplain Major Andrew Calvert for criticizing possible changes to the Department of Defense’s policies on transgender service. The Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty released a statement Monday calling on senior Army leadership to dismiss charges of wrongdoing against Calvert for the social media post. Calvert was expressing views that were consistent with U.S. Defense Department policy at the time, argued the Alliance, and was also expressing his sincerely held religious beliefs on the matter.
