ISLAMABAD: The MNA-elect from NA-75 Daska Ms. Syed Nosheen Iftikhar will take oath of membership tomorrow (Friday) as the summary for summoning the session of the NA has been consigned to the President. Ms. Iftikhar of PML-N was elected on Saturday last in bye-elections inflicting defeat upon PTI candidate.
The NA session will be held at 9am, and it is likely that the leader of opposition Shahbaz Sharif who was granted bail on Wednesday by LHC in a disputed NAB case, would be attending it. The sources said that the lower house of the Parliament is meeting amid acrimonious atmosphere between government and opposition which is also facing fissures. The opposition that had worked in unison during the last session of NA managed to keep the Treasury antagonized. The sources pointed out that with release of Shahbaz Sharif, opposition groups will try to mend their fences and reunite on the fringes of the sittin ....

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday observed that it intended to determine whether the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) Feb 25 decision to hold fresh by-election in the entire NA-75 Daska constituency was in accordance with its constitutional mandate keeping in view the urgency of the situation that prevailed on polling day.
“The question before the apex court is to determine that the standard of the proof, quantum of evidence and the degree of violation and the law and order situation necessitated re-poll in its entirety,” observed Justice Umar Ata Bandial, who was heading a three-judge SC bench also consisting of Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmed and Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi. ....

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has said that the petition challenging the re-polling in Sialkot’s NA-75 should be dismissed as many rules were violated during the February 19 by-election.
The ECP submitted its reply in the petition filed by Ali Asjad Malhi, who contested the by-election on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket. The electoral body said that the code of conduct was issued on December 21, 2020 but still the rules were not followed. It said that it had ordered “a prohibition on the commencement and carrying on of the development work at the behest of the political offices and the government” but the work continued. ....
