Stony Plain lacrosse player reaching new heights at U.S. university

Eric George is making headlines as a freshman lacrosse player at Chowan University in North Carolina.
The Stony Plain native (18) was awarded an athletic scholarship to the private school in 2020. Prior to that, he had been a member of the Parkland Posse Lacrosse Association his entire minor lacrosse career before being drafted by the Fort Saskatchewan Rebels Junior B Tier 1 program in 2019.

Initially a baseball player, George’s lacrosse journey began when he was eight years old. He said his family had a mini lacrosse stick in their garage which he began to play with one summer. The following year, his father pulled him out of baseball and enrolled him in the Posse’s minor box lacrosse program. ....

In four different bills introduced over the last month, North Carolina’s General Assembly is once again proposing changes to North Carolina’s certificate of need (“CON”) law, first enacted in 1971. This law extensively regulates the acquisition, development and expansion of a variety of health care services in North Carolina, such as hospital beds, operating rooms, ambulatory surgery facilities, MRI scanners and long-term care facilities. In North Carolina, CON requirements may be triggered by how much something costs (such as a CT scanner) or by the nature of a new institutional health service (such as a MRI scanner). The proposed changes range from what appear to be relatively minor updates to complete repeal and share common sponsors who appear intent on revising, if not wholesale repealing, the CON Law. In this post, we briefly review the changes under consideration.   ....

Senators move to make nonprofit donor names private - Carolina Journal


A new bill supported by influential N.C. senators would protect the confidentiality of donors to nonprofit organizations and charities.
Senate Bill 636 would prevent the disclosure of the names of people giving money or property to nonprofit corporations, making their identities confidential. The bill would also prohibit legislators and government workers from disclosing confidential information they come across in the course of their work. 
Primary sponsors of the bill are Sens. Joyce Krawiec, R-Forsyth, Norm Sanderson, R-Craven, and Bob Steinburg, R-Chowan. Democratic Sen. Dan Blue, D-Wake, is a co-sponsor.
No federal laws require public disclosure of donors to charitable organizations. However, state laws can require nonprofits to disclose donor names.  ....
