Federal Court Rules 1992 Term Limits Amendment to Michigan Constitution Was LawfulContact: Ryan Jarvi 517-599-2746Agency: Attorney General
January 22, 2021
LANSING – A federal court sided with the offices of Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Attorney General Dana Nessel when it dismissed a lawsuit Wednesday that challenged the current status of Michigan’s term limits under a constitutional amendment passed by voters nearly 30 years ago.
The challenge to the 1992 amendment was filed by 10 former Democratic and Republican state legislators in
Kowall et al v Benson, 19-985 (WD Mich). But Judge Janet T. Neff, of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, dismissed the case, in part, because the plaintiffs’ constitutional claims were barred in light of a previous court decision – or were otherwise without merit.

AG - Utility Imposter Scams

Utility Imposter Scams
Have you ever received a call from a utility company claiming that your bill is overdue and if you don’t pay now, your power, heat or water will be turned off? That is the last thing you want in Michigan’s cold winters or hot summers. Scammers know this and will pose as utility company employees to trick you into providing money, personal or financial information.
Michigan consumers are targeted by Utility Imposter Scams every day and increase as we approach the holiday season. This year is even worse due to the ongoing financial impacts of COVID-19. Attorney General Dana Nessel wants to help Michigan consumers recognize potential bad actors posing as utility workers, whether  in-person, by phone, text, or online.
