Sheryl Wise loves music and theater, but teaching is her calling

ZANESVILLE – Sheryl Wise is a musician, teacher and theatrical person extraordinaire. As such, she gives unique meaning to the term multi-talented.
“Music and theater are in my DNA,” she explained. “With a mother who was a classically trained pianist, teacher, and church musician, a father who played jazz and regularly played in dance bands, was a solo artist, as well as singing in the church choir, a sister who was a church musician, and played or directed many musicals, how could this not be part of who I am?”
Wise was born and raised in Zanesville, graduated from Zanesville High School in 1976, then Otterbein with a degree in music education in 1980. She earned a master’s in education from Muskingum in 1995. She started on her Ph.D. at Ohio University but was sidetracked when her father passed away and she “decided it was more important to take care of my mom who was in her late 70s at the time than to finish my degree.” ....

ZANESVILLE - The Muskingum County Community Foundations has awarded $78,308 to 32 organizations and projects in spring grant awards.
Additionally, the Longaberger Family Quality of Life Fund through the foundation has awarded $18,000 to Transitions of Muskingum County for operational support and $10,000 to establish the Muskingum County Child s Advocacy Center. Transitions provides trauma informed direct services for victims of domestic violence.
Grant recipients were:
Adamsville Boy Scout Troop 122 - $3,035 for five Eagle Scout projects
Animal Shelter Society - $1,600 for Catapalooza spay and neuter clinic
Bethel Community Center - $3,750 for the summer program
Chandlersville Community Building - $1,450 for new gutters ....

ZANESVILLE - The J.W. & M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation recently awarded nearly $1.6 million in grants to various local entities. This included $100,000 to support a new county talent recruitment and retention program.
Major grants included $600,000 to Muskingum University for health and wellness center support, $100,000 to the city of Zanesville for community development and park renovation, $92,669.65 to Dresden for the community swim center, $90,000 to Muskingum County History for building renovations, $52,991.09 to the dog warden for keen construction and security cameras, $50,000 to Eastside Community Ministry for building construction, $50,000 to Trulight Ministries for homeless program support and $50,000 to Zanesville Community Theatre for facility upgrades. ....

Straker Foundation Approves $1.6 Million in Grants in Muskingum County

members and the community honored J. William Straker at a memorial service on
Saturday, May 1, 2021. That afternoon, the Trustees of the J.W. & M.H.
Straker Charitable Foundation met to approve grant awards totaling almost 1.6
million dollars.
Straker
Trustees are the children and grandchildren of J. William and Mary Helen
Straker, who established the Foundation.
The J.W.
& M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation will announce a smaller competitive
grant cycle for Fall 2021.
