Michelle White, the chef-owner of Next Step Soul Food Cafe on Washington Street in Codman Square, joined Community Servings’ “Learning Kitchen Live” series on Facebook live last Thursday afternoon to teach an online audience how to make one of her signature dishes: fried shrimp and turnip greens.
The online cooking class series is a recent initiative begun by Community Servings, a Jamaica Plain-based nonprofit that serves nutritionally tailored meals and provides nutrition education to thousands of people per year across Massachusetts who are unable to shop or cook for themselves or their families due to critical illnesses. ....

“Martha Eliot Health Center to cut service to adults”
The Martha Eliot Health Center (MEHC) at 75 Bickford St., which is run by Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH), announced it would no longer care for adult patients in a letter to BCH’s staff, associated personnel and volunteers.
The change affected about 5,000 adult patients, according to Dr. Shari Nethersole, MEHC’s acting medical director. transferred the care of adult patients to other facilities in what was a months-long process that started immediately.
The focus on young patients is part of BCH changing its clinical services on “what it does best,” Nethersole said at the time. There are about 4,000 child and teen patients at MEHC, she said. ....

House speaker Mariano criticized for his response to questions on vaccines

QUINCY  Newly minted House Speaker Ron Mariano is drawing criticism for his response to questions about the COVID-19 vaccine in a recent TV interview.
He replied,  I have no idea.
Sacchetti followed up by asking if he was looking into it at all and Mariano told her, I just got here.
Sacchetti then asked if he would be looking into it and Mariano said, If it s necessary, obviously we re going to be taking a look at it.
His response to a topic on nearly everyone s minds has drawn the ire of some observers.
I think it s ridiculous, frankly. He s been close to power for a long time and this issue isn t new, said David Fadul, communications strategist for polling and consulting firm Poll Progressive. This doesn t convey a lot of confidence in the system when we need competence more than anything.   ....

The renowned nun, artist, and one-time Boston resident Sister Corita opined that art “does not come from thinking, but from responding.” Music exemplifies this notion. Call-and-response is ubiquitous at a live concert, a church sermon, or a New Orleans funeral procession, and the music it produces is one enriched by both human participation and rhythmic syncopation. 2020 delivered a call to action for Boston-based musicians to persist through resistance — and luckily for us, even grow artistically. Whether the conversation falls on communities of color, persons affected by state violence, or those disenfranchised by the current politi ....
