Demolition starts on Berkman Plaza 2 after standing 13 years in limbo

The 13-year wait for something anything to change where the partly built Berkman Plaza 2 tower has hulked in skeletal form on the downtown riverfront finally moved toward demolition Thursday when the first chunk of pulverized concrete came down.
The demolition won t deliver the catharsis of an eye-catching implosion leveling a structure in a matter of seconds.
The painstaking work using a high-reach excavator will remove pieces of the tower one bite at time over the next three to four months, starting at the top and gradually moving to the ground.
City Council member Reggie Gaffney said that after 13 frustrating years, just to see the first rock crushed, to me it was a very humbling experience and I’m just so excited. ....

I regularly watch the Jacksonville RiverWalk north bank often and it s not much of a view anymore since the demolition of the Jacksonville Landing. Just green open space. and to be honest, Jacksonville has A LOT of green open space so I m not WOW d by it.
Just recently a Developer proposed a new idea for the space, calling it
Riverfront Jacksonville
worth 1.1 Billion dollars and asking the City of Jacksonville to pay half.
Now before we go into the photos and images let s throw my opinion out there now.
I like the idea of any developer taking interests in DTJax and I d LOVE to see the skyline and economy downtown develop into something great for tourists, for locals to eat, live, and play, and just be a FUN attractive skyline. ....
