Two people told a homeowner they were an alarm company, but something wasn’t right.
Tuesday, Punta Gorda Police Department says it received a report from a woman who says strangers in plain clothes told her they were with an alarm company and knocked on her at around 8 p.m.
“I would probably tell them you’re breaking the law, and then, I would make a phone call to 911,” John McFarland said.
McFarland is following the lead of one of his neighbors after a suspicious encounter.

A Brief History of Satanic Panic

When you think about activities commonly seen at a preschool, things like naps, games, and Play-Doh sculptures probably come to mind. One thing that definitely would not is boiling and eating babies—at least, not unless you grew up in the 1980s, when reports of daycare centers engaging in satanic rituals were widely circulated and readily believed.
Satanic panic was a phenomenon that swept North America, and at the height of the craze, you basically couldn’t open up the newspaper or turn on the news without hearing about subliminal messages hidden in rock music, pagan symbols in cartoons, or criminal trials involving teachers engaging in human sacrifice. People went to jail for years based on little more than a widespread rumor that the devil’s minions were corrupting—and sometimes devouring—children. The mass hysteria grew to include Oprah, the Smurfs, and even McDonald’s.

Nurses, nonprofits, others take COVID-19 vaccine to homebound people

As interest in cornonavirus vaccinations dwindles nationwide, providers are ramping up efforts to find and reach millions of people in the U.S. who cannot leave their homes or who need help with transportation. The process is slow and requires careful planning, but advocates say getting vaccinated is critical for people who are constantly exposed to visiting aides - and that they should have been a focus sooner.
While the effort is happening in many states, experts say California has one of the most robust programs. Meanwhile, Pennsylvania is stepping up efforts, Gov. Tom Wolf said in April.
Health care workers at Boston Medical Center have been racing to inoculate patients since February. And New Jersey, under pressure from advocacy groups, recently posted a phone number and online form for people needing in-home vaccinations.

So McAllister, 64, was over the moon when her local county health department in Hayward, California, called offering to inoculate her against COVID-19 at home. Two paramedics with Hayward Fire came last month, jabbed her arm with the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine and stuck around to make sure she was alright.
