Restricted parking law before council | News, Sports, Jobs

JOHNSTOWN The Common Council will conduct a public hearing Monday on a proposed ordinance change that would restrict parking for a section of South Perry Street.
The hearing will kick off the council’s monthly business meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
Due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting will be closed to the public, but broadcast using Facebook Live. The public can view the session from the official city of Johnstown Facebook page city of Johnstown, New York.
The hearing pertains to no parking on South Perry Street. Later in the meeting, the council will consider an amendment to the city’s Code of Ordinances to have “no parking any time” on the east side of South Perry Street – from the intersection of First Avenue to the intersection of Fourth Avenue. It would take effect after adoption. ....

JOHNSTOWN The Common Council is poised to adopt a state-mandated Police Reform Plan at its monthly business meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
The plan required by the state by April 1 has been worked on for several months by the Johnstown Police Department, Chief David Gilbo and his officers.
Mayor Vern Jackson said Friday the plan, taking a critical look at how the local police force is run and can be changed, meets the standards required by the state.
“I think he did an excellent job,” Jackson said of Gilbo.
The council will hold a public hearing on the plan prior to adoption. ....

Ringing in 2021: Celebration Johnstown will offer virtual lineup due to COVID pandemic


Get out the party hats and noise makers and ring in 2021 virtually.
Due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns, the in-person Celebration Johnstown family-oriented celebration traditionally held Dec. 31 in Central Park and the downtown Johnstown area isn’t able to held, but the show will still go on.
Theresa Subich, a co-chairwoman of Celebration Johnstown, said earlier in the year the planning committee discussed canceling the event because of uncertainties with the virus.
“We thought it was best just to sit this year out because we couldn’t have people meeting at venues and putting their health at risk and we couldn’t ask churches to open,” she said. “We planned to make the announcement as late as possible because we didn’t want to get people too upset.” ....
