Police have launched a criminal investigation after establishing that the cause of the blast in Heysham, Lancs, in the early hours of Sunday May 16 was a cut gas pipe. ....

A house explosion which killed a child and injured four people was not caused by the gas mains, the company responsible for gas distribution said.
Two-year-old George Hinds died in the blast on Mallowdale Avenue in Heysham, Lancashire, early on 16 May.
Director of Cadent North West, Jenny Moten, said: The gas mains and service pipes are sound and did not contribute to or cause the explosion at Heysham.

Ms Moten said: Since the incident, our engineers have been on-site working with the emergency services and supporting customers in the area. ....

An explosion that killed a child was caused by a gas pipe being cut inside a neighbouring house, police said.
Four other people were also hurt in the explosion which destroyed two homes and seriously damaged a third.
Lancashire Police said it was investigating how and why the pipe became severed and treating it as a criminal investigation.

There will be no quick answers in the investigation of a house explosion which killed a child and left four others injured, a fire chief has said.
Two-year-old George Hinds died in the blast on Mallowdale Avenue in Heysham, Lancashire, in the early hours of Sunday.
Two houses collapsed and a third was seriously damaged.
Assistant chief fire officer Ben Norman said investigators were working in the most awful conditions .

Mass vaccination centres in Southend face shortage of supplies


MULTIPLE mass vaccination centres across south Essex have now “paused” the rollout of the jab due to a shortage of vaccines.
Both the Runnymede Hall vaccine centre in Thundersley and the vaccine hub at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend will be shut from today.
Runnymede Hall will not re-open until May 4 while the Cliffs Pavilion is aiming to re-open for more vaccines on Monday.
Bosses at the Essex Partnership University Trust, which is heading the vaccine rollout, confirmed individual sites being put on “pause” is standard procedure depending on the availability of vaccines.
Castle Point council leader, Jeffrey Stanley, said he trusts the decision of NHS bosses to temporarily close the Runnymede Hall site with the vaccine rollout proving a success so far. ....
