March 16, 1866: The East Tennessee Union Flag reported recent Washington County election results. S.T. Shipley was elected Sheriff. Maj. James E. Deacons was elected Circuit Court Clerk, while John F. Grisham was selected County Court Clerk. Capt. George McPherson was elected trustee, J.J. Yeager was elected revenue collector, and Lt. G.W. Douglas was elected register.
The East Tennessee Union Flag was a newspaper published in Jonesborough, which was spelled that way at the time.
March 16, 1892: The Comet reported several items of interest to readers. âDr. Boltonâs new residence is almost finished. It is very pretty.â

There s a buzz of activity in this normally quiet Dundee cul-de-sac; actors scurry to their places, props are pushed into place, and neighbours gather, shuffling their feet to keep the winter chill at bay.
Dundee Rep Ensemble are ready for their first Christmas show of the year - not to a packed auditorium, but to just one special audience member.
George McPherson, who is 102 years old, was nominated for a theatrical treat by his neighbours, who say he is loved by the whole street .
George is delighted by the show, a potted version of A Christmas Carol - the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future swirling around the street over the course of 15 minutes. ....

Covid-19: GPs begin vaccinations, schools latest and panto for one

1. Vaccination programme widens
GP surgeries in England will begin vaccinating patients against coronavirus today. Practices in more than 100 locations will receive their first batches of the Pfizer/BioNTech jab and will operate seven days a week, 12 hours a day. If you re eligible, you ll be contacted. The surgeries are the first in a network of 1,200 across the UK that ll eventually deliver vaccinations. Our health correspondent Nick Triggle says supply is key, and what could really change the speed of the rollout is approval of the vaccine developed by Oxford University. Regulators are currently assessing its safety and effectiveness - see how that process works. Elsewhere, vaccinations will also begin later in Scottish care homes. ....
