A new Parkcrest elementary is revealed


A cause was never determined.
Hundreds of students were displaced, but taken up days later in other school facilities, including George Hilliard elementary.
The school’s replacement, set to open by the spring of 2024, will feature a larger gymnasium and other improvements.
“Now our school will be restored even better than it was before,” incoming SD73 superintendent Rhonda Nixon said.

ALBERT “CAESAR” BERRY: It was a thrill! Norman Burnett, George Hilliard, Donald Banks and I were singing songs in my basement. We had harmonies but didn’t have a lead singer. Norman ran into George Williams at his job, where he was a tow truck driver, and asked George if he wanted to join the group. George said yes to Norman and came in with a song called “As We Stroll Along,” at the time. We rehearsed it and sang it many ways until it became the way people know it from its hit version, with the title change to “So Much in Love.” When I heard it on ....

Parkcrest Elementary School was gutted by flames in September 2019. School principal Cath Gorman says she and her staff are excited about the new school site after a year of teaching at a nearby elementary school.
