Poverman succeeds longtime Moderator Sandy Gadsby, who held the position for nearly 30 years and returned as an assistant to Poverman this time around. Poverman asked to be called Madam Moderator. She also clarified she will refer to Town Meeting members as Mr. Mrs. or Ms. depending on the person s preference. ....

Wicked Local In his free time, Dr. Linus Guillory can usually be found playing piano with his son, taking on home improvement projects or competing remotely with his brother to see who can make the better brisket or ribs. Recently, however, Guillory has taken on a new hobby: familiarizing himself with Brookline, where he’ll start as the new school superintendent come July. “You ll see me around some weekends, when my wife and I and my little guy will just jump in the truck and just sort of start getting ourselves acclimated to where schools are,” he said. Last month, the School Committee unanimously voted to appoint Guillory, a veteran educator, to lead the district. That role has been open since former Superintendent Andrew Bott stepped down in 2019, though Brookline has had two interim superintendents in the meantime. ....

Wicked Local Dr. Linus Guillory will be Brookline s new permanent school superintendent, following the School Committee s unanimous approval Thursday. He will be the first Black superintendent the district has had. The position has been vacant since former Superintendent Andrew Bott stepped down nearly two years ago. Guillory will take the reins from Interim Superintendent Dr. Jim Marini, the second interim leader since Bott resigned. His appointment will be effective July 1 and is conditioned on the negotiation of his contract. The sole finalist in Brookline’s superintendent search (the other two finalists dropped out), Guillory brings with him more than 20 years in education. His experience ranges from nearby Lowell where he currently serves as chief schools officer to Rochester, New York, and Houston, Texas, where he worked for NASA’s Johnson Space Center. ....
