IADL President Jeanne Mirer said the attacks on Filipino lawyers are in violation of international law including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, the UN Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers, the Convention against Torture and even of the Fourth Geneva Convention and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, among others.

International body to release findings on human rights situation in the Philippines

MANILA – An international investigation body is set to submit its findings on the human rights situation in the Philippines.
This was announced during the global launch of the Independent International Commission of Investigation into human rights violations in the Philippines or Investigate PH on Jan. 28. 
Peter Murphy, chairperson of the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP) said during the online launch that the group will release two preliminary reports in time for the 46th and 47th UN Human Rights Council sessions in March and July 2021 respectively. ....

The Independent International
Commission of Investigation into human rights violations in
the Philippines or Investigate PH was launched this week on
January 26 and 28. The commission expressed urgency for
accountability of perpetrators and justice for victims and
their families.
The landmark launch happened in two
time zones where more than 300 participants from lawyers
organisations, civil society and churches all over the world

An international commission to investigate alleged human rights violations in the Philippines was launched on Thursday.
In a statement, the Independent International Commission of Investigation into Human Rights Violations in the Philippines or Investigate PH said it was created under a resolution of the 45th UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session in October last year.
“Investigate PH is a critical space of solidarity and accompaniment of the people of the Philippines as it investigates the blatant violation and violence related to the basic human rights of people,” said commissioner Rev. Michael Blair, who is also the general secretary of the United Church of Canada’s General Council. ....
