Frances Louise Ketchum was born on Dec. 22, 1873, in Centreville, New Brunswick, Canada. Her parents were Isaac and Sarah Dingee Ketchum. Her father left the family in New Brunswick while he traveled to Central Oregon to look for land to settle.
He arrived near Prineville in 1878. He purchased some state school land and made improvements before sending for his family. Frances, her mother and sister, Wilda, traveled to The Dalles by train and then by wagon to their new home in Prineville in 1880. Frances attended school in Prineville where she acquired the nickname of Fanny. ....

William B. Morse, who came to the community in 1909, also served as mayor, chamber president, judge and legislator
William Britton Morse was born March 23, 1886, in Burlington, Kansas. He graduated from Kansas State Normal School and taught a year in Kansas before moving to Portland in 1906. He attended business college in Portland.
He came to Prineville in 1909 and worked as a bookkeeper for the Collins-Elkins Mercantile store. He also farmed along McKay Creek from 1913 to 1926. He purchased the Prineville Warehouse company in 1926. He began to expand his business presence by establishing the Morse Lumber company and the Redmond Potato Company. ....

Thomas Jefferson Stewart was born in Corvallis on Aug. 10, 1868. Later that same year, his parents, John and Mariah Hobbs Stewart, moved to Douglas County. They lived on Days Creek until 1883.
That year, they moved to Central Oregon and settled on Crooked River near the confluence of the north and south forks of the river between present Post and Paulina. The family operated their ranch on Crooked River for several years. John and Mariah, along with their younger children, moved back to Douglas County in 1899. ....

Lenora Hilliard was born in Brinker, Pennsylvania, on April 25, 1851. When she was a young child, her family moved to California where they settled. Lenora attended schools near her parents home.
About the same time her family moved to California, Leander Dillon also moved with his family to the same region. Leander was born in Quincy, Illinois, on Sept. 21, 1843. Lenora and Leander became acquainted and soon had a romantic involvement. They were married in Tulare County, California, on June 20, 1867. Lenora had just turned 16 years old. While living in California, they had nine children. ....
