Willmar City Council holds off on making city administrator decision as they wait for more information on candidates

The day concluded with the finalists having a second interview with the entire council, this time in person. Brooks was interviewed first, followed by Schoening. The interviews lasted about an hour and the council asked each candidate a variety of questions.
Brooks is currently on active duty in the United States Air Force, having served as an officer for the past eight years. He is stationed in Daytona Beach, Florida, and is an Air Force ROTC instructor at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He has been deployed twice overseas and has served as flight commander, similar to a city manager, for a number of units. In those positions, he oversaw dozens of employees and managed budgets and projects, some worth millions, according to his resume. ....

Tyler Brooks and Dana Schoening were chosen Thursday by the Willmar City Council to be interviewed in person for the city administrator position. The plan is to hold the interviews, along with a tour of Willmar and meeting members of the public, next Thursday.

Willmar businesses being asked to pull up temporary signs as emergency ordinance lapses; using public rights of way still allowed for next 60 days
The Willmar City Council is starting to pull back on the emergency ordinances put in place due to the pandemic. Temporary signs from businesses are no longer exempt from sign requirements while businesses are still able to use the public right of way, like parking spaces, for business purposes such as outdoor dining.

Block 25 land sale in downtown Willmar headed to public hearing
The Willmar City Council moved the Block 25 land sale process forward, setting a public hearing for May 17. The Planning and Development department is proposing selling the western half of the block, owned by the city, to Lumber One Development Company for $1 per parcel. The four parcels will be part of a new apartment complex in downtown Willmar.

Block 25 located between Second and Third Street Southwest and bordered by U.S. Highway 12 and Benson Avenue in downtown Willmar will potentially be purchased by Lumber One Development Company to construct a 57-unit, market-rate apartment complex. Divided Willmar City Council approves new meeting structure, unanimously moves forward with civility initiative
In a tie vote broken by the mayor, the Willmar City Council approved a resolution to dismantle its committee structure and move to an administrator-to-council method on how issues come in front of the council. The council also approved taking part in the Speak Your Peace Civility project, in an attempt to better work as a group.
