Jefferson County Open Space could get nearly 1,200 acres of the Goltra ranch properties, which sit between Clear Creek Canyon Park, Centennial Cone Park and Mount Galbraith Park through a complex deal involving the mining company Martin Marietta.
Jefferson County officials have had their eyes on the foothills west of Golden for decades. A sprawling set of ranch properties sits just beyond the city limits, with miles of hilly and largely untouched terrain.
Now, the county is poised to buy a large chunk of that land through a complex deal involving the mining company Martin Marietta. Ultimately, Jefferson County Open Space could get nearly 1,200 acres of the Goltra ranch properties, which sit between Clear Creek Canyon Park, Centennial Cone Park and Mount Galbraith Park. ....

Scot Grossman and his team are finishing touches on this brand new, nearly two-mile stretch of trail that curves along Clear Creek Canyon in Colorado.
âItâs 65 miles, 5,600 vertical feet, going through multiple jurisdictions along the way. The biggest link to that 65 miles is Clear Creek Canyon, which weâre in right now,â Scot Grossman, the projects team supervisor at Jefferson County Open Space, said.
By the end of August, this part of the trail will be open for walking and biking.
âWe finished about three miles in 2017; this is a mile and three quarters right now. We have funding for another three and a half miles, which will leave roughly a five-mile gap, and that s really where that federal money comes in,â Grossman said. ....

Police encourage residents to photograph others setting off illegal fireworks
Wheat Ridge Police stated the penalty for setting off illegal fireworks this year is $999 and up to a year in jail.

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. With July 4th just around the corner, the Wheat Ridge Police Department (WRPD) is encouraging its residents to photograph anyone they see setting off illegal fireworks in city limits.
The police department told 9NEWS in order to issue citations to residents that are doing the illegal activity, they need photographic proof.
If you have a photo of someone lighting off fireworks that shows us who the culprit would be and who would actually be responsible for that fire danger, WRPD Office Brian Gross said. ....
