Wyoming Public Radio s Melodie Edwards sat down with Journalist Anne MacKinnon to discuss her book Public Water: Lessons from Wyoming for the American West. The book tackles the fascinating history of how we came to manage all that water, and what other states could learn from us as we face greater droughts and climate change in the future.

Open Spaces. They are known locally for community services like public service announcements, weather and emergency updates, and local news. There is one critical public radio service, though, that is not readily visible to the listener. This service is training students through internships.
Wyoming Public Media has an Internship training program that involves students, many of them from the University of Wyoming. They come from a variety of disciplines, and work alongside our professional staff as assistants in the news department, fundraising, technology, and administration. The experience they gain helps launch their media careers, or gives them invaluable skills that translate into a variety of disciplines. For example, interns learn to write concisely, meet deadlines, use audio and basic video equipment, produce content to national standards. They learn proper techniques of research ....

Some License Suspensions Under Nonresident Compact Invalid, UW Defender Aid Clinic Shows

When Wyoming resident Celeste Armstrong had her driver s license suspended a year ago, she had no way of knowing that her case could completely change the way licenses are suspended. But the University of Wyoming s Defender Aid Clinic took up her case and eventually won in Albany County District Court.
Clinic Director Professor Lauren McLane and Student Attorney Nathan Yanchek demonstrated that the Wyoming Department of Transportation had been using the wrong law to suspend licenses. Wyoming Public Radio s Jeff Victor spoke with McLane about what this means for Wyoming drivers.
Lauren McLane: Ms. Armstrong had a speeding ticket that occurred in the city of Laramie. She has a Wyoming driver s license, so an in-state license, she s driving within the state of Wyoming. When she s in Laramie, she gets a speeding ticket and that ticket eventually goes unpaid. And at some point in time, when you have unpaid tickets, the Department of Transportation can take action again ....
